TEACHER DIGITAL COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS OF EDUCATION DEGREES: TRAINING, EVALUATION, CERTIFICATION

TEACHER DIGITAL COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS OF EDUCATION DEGREES: TRAINING, EVALUATION, CERTIFICATION

07GI1916

2019 - 2020

Teacher Digital Competence (TDC) is a key professional competence for in-service teachers. Providing  pre-service teachers with training in this competence at the university, is considered to be essential in many international and national reports. Nowadays, the Catalan government and the Department of Education consider the TDC accreditation as a merit for competitions and job positions. In the near future the TDC accreditation will be a requirement for teachers’ professional careers and  for this reason, universities need to provide their students with training that will enable them to work as teachers.

Throughout the different Bachelor's degrees in Education, training in TDC is not homogenous neither does it comply with the standards set for its evaluation. At the Double Bachelor’s Degree in Preschool and Primary School Education (experimental group), a specific training is being implemented in TDC. It will be interesting to carry out a comparative study of the different curricula and a diagnostic evaluation to detect deficiencies, weaknesses and strengths that will allow to improve the training of pre-service teachers based on the results obtained.

Participants

The students participating are on their second year of their Bachelor’s Degree.

Research Instruments:

  • Matrix of content analysis of teaching guides and courses according to the evaluation rubric of the TDC (Lázaro & Gisbert, 2015; Lázaro Usart & Gisbert, 2019).

  • COMDID-C: Objective evaluation test of the TDC. The results of the validity calculations indicate that this is a well-designed instrument from a psychometric point of view and consistent with its measurements; particularly: Cohen's Kappa = 0.603 (reliable) and Livingston's coefficient = 0.723 (reliable).
